ENGLISH DESCRIPTION:
Saint Lucy is the saint who, throughout the world, has the largest number of traditions and legends. Perhaps does not exist, in the centuries-old history of Christian Holiness, a testimonial that - like Saint Lucy - have so strongly influenced and oriented cultures and traditions. The author traces the development of the young saint of Syracuse (third century), comparing sources and documents with complex and expressions of tradition, and an overview of the rites, cults and festivals related to her name.
(Lucia of Syracuse (283–304), also known as Saint Lucy, or Saint Lucia (Italian), was a young Christian martyr who died during the Diocletianic Persecution. She is venerated as a Saint by the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, and Orthodox Churches. She is one of eight women, who along with the Blessed Virgin Mary, are commemorated by name in the Canon of the Mass. Her feast day, known as Saint Lucy's Day, is celebrated in the West on 13 December)
